I'll Be Back!

The above title was a sentence uttered by the young Lewis Hamilton after losing grip of his Formula 1 world championship title over the weekend race in Brazil. Hamilton was a shoe-in to become the 2007 F-1 world champion, but made costly mistakes in the season's last race which ultimately cost him the title.

Hamilton is the youngest to ever race in F-1 (22-years old) history and what's an even bigger deal is that Hamilton is the first ever African-American to race in Formula One; a sport that is primarily dominated by those of German and Italian descent.

Lewis started off the season with a podium placing (3rd place) and out of the 17 races of the season, Hamilton held 12 podium positions (podium positions are for racers that place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and won four races. Hamilton lead in the points for the season and with exception of a few close calls on the points boards with his fellow McLaren-Mercedes teammate Fernando Alonso, he still managed to hold the lead and it was likely that he would be the first the African-American to win a world championship title in F-1 history. Unfortunately for both Hamilton and Alonso, they fell victim to Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen, a Finnish racer, whom more or less came out of nowhere to capture the F-1 world championship title by besting both Hamilton and Alonso on the points board by one point (Räikkönen: 110 pts. and Hamilton/Alonso 109 pts.).

There is still much promise for young Lewis and 2008 sees him becoming an even better racer whom will offer an even greater challenge to his opponents.

Even Formula 1 great and Ferrari sports car designer, Michael Schumacher gave Lewis rave reviews after seeing him race.

I LOVE Lewis Hamilton (and not only because he is so handsome)!!!

It was truly disappointing to hear of his loss when he was SOOOO close to taking it ALL! I am definitely looking forward to his performance in 2008!!!

I love to see young Black people, such as Lewis Hamilton doing positive things with their lives. It's not often that we see or hear the media glorifying young Black people like himself for the position he is blessed to be in. Although I myself am not that much into watching car racing on TV, good peoples like Lewis Hamilton sure wanna make me turn on the bloob tube & root for him all the way! :-)

22 years old! Man that's incredible! I've never seen Formula 1, but I'm interested in seeing this 22 year old do his thing!

I'm telling JV, once you watch one Formula 1 race you will be hooked on it man. I started watching Formula 1 by accident a couple of years back when Michael Schumacher was the top F-1 racer and I immediately became a serious fan of Schumacher, Ferrari, and F-1 racing. My devotion to Ferrari changed when Schumacher retired last year and Lewis Hamilton came on the scene to race for McLaren-Mercedes. I had to support that young brother and his team and I will be with them until he leaves the sport or perhaps goes to another race team; basically where ever Lewis goes, I go!
